Chairmans Introduction

On behalf of the members, welcome to the Bicester Chamber of Commerce website. It brings together over 500 local businesses and provides an insight into the work of the Chamber and a guide to the benefits available to members.

Located to the north east of Oxford, Bicester has its roots in Roman Britain and has more recently played host to major deployments from the British Army and the Royal Air Force. Originally a small market town, Bicester has grown dramatically in the last 15 years and today offers a great location for business. With easy access to the rail networks, London and Birmingham are less than an hour away and the M40 motorway offers fast connections to all of the major connerbations in the country. The local economy continues to grow strongly and more companies now recognise the real potential of Bicester’s location.

The Chamber provides the major contact point for the local business community and a forum for current issues. It campaigns on behalf of members for the sustainable economic development of the area and provides a respected view to local government and the various development bodies.

The Chamber has 3 main working groups:

Economic development   County-wide planning and economic development

Education & skills           Development of the current & future workforce

Town centre                 Maintaining a successful and vibrant town

Recognition of the need to invest in the education and skills of the current and future workforce is also a major part of the Chambers commitment to the local community. Each year it organises ‘Going 4 It’, a dynamic and exciting careers event for year 9 students and is actively supported by over 50 local employers. The Chamber also helps to find over 400 work placements each year and provides a solid bridge between our schools and local commerce.

The prestigious “Bicester Business Awards” are a popular annual event and mark significant achievement in a number of areas within the business community. To improve networking opportunities the Chamber also runs a Breakfast Club, complete with specialist briefings, and is a great way to improve business knowledge.

The Bicester Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization open to guests and welcomes new members at any time. We are intent on developing the local business community and promoting Bicester as a vibrant business location.
